The Mellor is Whitebirk's most compact apron-front sink: a squared 595mm farmhouse sink with crisp edges that sit flush against the worktop and cabinet doors. The bowl is deeper than the footprint suggests, so it handles everyday pans without fuss, and it fits a standard 600mm base unit.

Will it fit?

The Mellor measures 595 x 465 x 229mm (width x depth x height) and weighs about 42kg. Every Whitebirk sink is handmade and kiln-fired, so sizes can vary by up to 2% either way. Have your fitter measure the actual sink before cutting worktops or cabinets. As an apron-front sink it suits a 600mm base unit. Make sure the cabinet is built to take the weight.

Specification

Caring for your sink

Clean with warm water, a mild washing-up liquid and a soft cloth, then rinse and wipe dry. Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool and harsh chemicals, and don't put very hot pans straight into the bowl. Whitebirk recommend Astonish Oven & Cookware cleaner for marks left by metal pans.

How big is the bowl inside?

The bowl measures approx. 535 x 405 x 199mm inside (length x width x depth). These are approximate figures, as every Whitebirk sink is handmade.

What size base unit does the Mellor need?

At 595mm wide, the Mellor suits a 600mm base unit. Handmade fireclay can vary by up to 2%, so your fitter should measure the sink itself before cutting the cabinet or worktop.

How heavy is the Mellor?

About 42kg. Make sure the cabinet or worktop is built to carry it. Whitebirk recommend professional installation.

Which waste do I need?

The Mellor has 1 x 3.5 inch outlet, so it takes one 3.5 inch basket strainer, standard or premium lever, or a waste disposal unit. The strainer comes with an overflow kit for the sink's overflow.

Is there a grid to protect the bowl?

Yes. Whitebirk make a custom-fit grid for the Mellor: one grid at 523 x 388mm, in stainless steel, black, white or a RAL colour.

Can I undermount or inset it instead?

Yes. Whitebirk say any of their kitchen sinks can be inset or undermounted with a support cradle underneath. The Understone Collection is designed specifically for inset and undermount fitting.
